Background:

SF Furniture was set up by Declan O’Donoghue & Ian Heseltine in 1980
after leaving the prestigious Parnham House College run by the internationally renowned John Makepeace.

SF was established in the village of Acton Turville , near Bath. It remains there today though the workshops have now increased to 3000 sq feet from the original 500!

We have comprehensive facilities doing all our own veneering, laminating, finishing etc. whilst using a team of specialists for other materials such as Stone, Metals, Glass, and Upholstery.

We select all timbers, veneers, and hides involved in each piece which is made either by an individual or team of craftsmen, as the scale of project demands; with progress being examined by one of the Partners at each and every stage from material selection to manufacture and completion, before being given the SF stamp of Quality. We deliver and install all our own work where ever possible.

We have exhibited frequently over the years at a host of shows both at home and internationally. We are fortunate to have made work for private clients in the USA, Australia, Africa, and Continental Europe, and have produced work for an impressive list of both corporate, public & Ecclesiastic clients
We have striven to produce work of lasting merit and unparalleled quality which is further endorsed by the receipt of no less than 21 Guild marks, awarded by the Worshipful Company of Furniture Makers, London. These are given for pieces which have been inspected by a Jury of Experts and are a hallmark of Excellence, for Design & Manufacture.

We welcome visitors to our workshops to view our extensive portfolios, drawings & models, peruse samples, and examine and touch finished items.

Philosophy:

SF Designs & Manufactures one off & batch furniture to exceptional standards. We work with our clients at every stage, to help them realise their requirements with our creative input, and within their budget. We embrace traditional constructional methods and freely marry them with modern structural materials, adhesives and fixing methods. In all areas we strive for one goal that is “Excellence.”

We strive to use materials which are from sustainable sources and certified.

Our commitment to our field has been further demonstrated by our instrumental involvement in the forming of the Furniture College in Letterfrack Connemara Ireland, and our continual training of dozens of young men & women over the years who have gone on to set up their own workshops or manage others.

It is our intention that we always provide a very personal service throughout every project and beyond. Many of our Clients come back time & time again as further endorsement of the exciting relationship between the Designer – Client –Maker.

Our Website pages represents a fraction of the work we have undertaken over the years, and demonstrates the creativity of projects ,the diversity of skills and variety of techniques involved, rather than a particular “House style”.
